One of the most embarrising bridge structures in civil engineering

The Tacoma Bridge fell in the 1940s. What would you have done to prevent this incident? I feel bad for that car there. Imagine this was the GW bridge at 7/20/11.

  1. That looks unreal, seeing steel bend and warp like that. You'd think that the planning was good enough that it wouldn't happen. I want to know what was going through the bridge designer's mind when he watched this. Let's hope that nobody's bridge does that in engineering class.

It may look unreal, but it definately wasn't! The bridge collapsed after One year of standing. I believe it was build with too much sway, so the wind just blew it down. If it was slightly sturdy, it would have lasted a lot longer.
